I love building PCs. I get to spend days with screwdrivers, capacitors, and motherboards. I build things that other people can't touch.
But building PCs has become a business. Manufacturers have figured out that they know more about the innards of PCs than you do, and that as a result they can sell computers that will perform much better. The computer industry has become vertically integrated. The parts used to make a computer used to be available from various suppliers, and you could put together the components you wanted. But PCs are now designed by companies that specialize in making parts for computers.
Today, if you want to build a high-performance PC, you have to consider how the chips are made and the motherboards they are mounted on. You have to know how to choose motherboards, and you want a motherboard that is designed for the particular chips you want. You don't want to use any parts that haven't been designed together.
But is all this really necessary?
Well, it is if you want to build high-performance PCs. But regular people don't want high-performance PCs. They want computers, and computers are cheap now. If you are building your own computer, you have two options. You can buy the components you want separately, or you can buy a computer that has them built in. In 1997, the cheapest computer I could find that had a graphics card and a sound card and enough memory for me was $600. I bought that computer.
By 2009, the cheapest computer I could find had a video card and a sound card and enough memory for me for $50. Today, you can build a computer for $50 that will do most things an ordinary person needs a computer for. That computer does most of what my $600 computer did, and it does those things in a fraction of the time.
Is it cheaper to build a gaming PC?
Sure, if you buy your parts online, and build them yourself. For example, I bought a 3930K and 3xGTX670s for less than $2000. I built a similar PC for a family member and it cost me around $1500. All you need is a basic understanding of how to put stuff together.
Is it better to build or buy gaming pc?
Building a gaming pc is the more technical and challenging option. Buying a prebuilt gaming pc is less time consuming and it'll be easier to get things right. If you choose building, you'll need an excellent knowledge on how to build a gaming pc and there are dozens of tutorials available online. Also, you should know that you won't get the best deals building a gaming pc and prebuilt pc's offer you a lot more warranty and options.
Is building a gaming pc hard
Building your own PC is not hard. It is not easy either, but it is nowhere as hard as you probably think. If you have basic understanding of how computers work you can build one. However, I would recommend that you have someone experienced help you for the first time. And just to be safe, check out PC building guides on YouTube before you start.
